Ease Your Bunion Pain Without Surgery

Bunions can be a real pain. The discomfort a bunion causes can easily decrease the quality of your life. It doesn’t have to though. Follow these quick tips to relieve some of the pain bunions can cause.

WHAT IS A BUNION?

bunion is one of the most common foot ailments. It is a deformity on the joint of the big toe, and it can manifest as a bump protruding from the joint. It can also cause the big toe to point toward the smaller toes and cause swelling and pain.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF BUNIONS?

  • Pain or discomfort when walking.
  • Redness and tenderness at the joint.

HOW TO PREVENT BUNIONS?

Unfortunately, bunions do not go away. However, there are a few things you can do to relieve some of the discomfort associated with them:

  • Maintain a healthy weight.
  • Wear properly fitting shoes. Make sure your shoe is wide enough to accommodate your bunion, so there is minimal pressure on it.
  • Use warm socks. It can significantly help with stiffness.
  • Use ibuprofen. Over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drugs can ease the pain.
  • Use shoe-inserts. Many convenience stores carry arch-supports inserted into your shoe, and another option is custom orthotics. These are inserts specially designed to fit the unique shape of your foot, providing sport and cushioning exactly where it’s needed most.
  • Use loose-fitting footwear that avoids putting pressure on the bunion.
  • Stretch your big toe. Stretching your big toe can offer pain relief. Use your fingers to pull your big toe back into its normal position gently. Hold the stretch for 10 seconds to prove some temporary relief.

If you are experiencing any pain or discomfort with your feet, it’s vital to contact an experienced professional right away.
