12 Steps to A Fantastic Summer

Now that the warm weather is here, it’s a great time to get outside and enjoy all the fun summer has to offer. People are heading to the beach, going hiking, hitting the pool, or just enjoying the sun. It’s important to take care of your feet during this time. Here are some tips to keep your feet healthy and safe during this season.

First, it’s important to contact an experienced specialist if you’re experiencing any discomfort with your feet. Follow these tips, and your feet will thank you:

  • Don’t walk barefoot. Always protect your feet from sharp objects by wearing proper footwear.
  • Don’t pop your blisters. Blisters act as a natural barrier to infections.
  • Don’t forget your sunscreen. Even your feet can get a sunburn.
  • Wear sandals around the pool. Pools can be a breeding ground for bacteria that love damp places, and sandals can prevent infections.
  • Wear the proper shoes. If you’re going for long walks in the woods, try hiking boots.
  • Keep your feet clean. Wash daily with soap and water, and don’t forget to get in between your toes.
  • Keep your feet dry. Athlete’s foot can be prevented by preventing damp foot conditions.
  • Keep your toenails clipped. Ingrown toenails can be extremely painful but prevented by making sure you regularly clip your toenails.
  • Make sure you stretch before any strenuous activities.
  • Don’t ignore any pain. As soon as you experience any discomfort or pain, it’s important to contact a podiatrist.
  • Air out your shoes and feet. This will keep your feet dry and help avoid foot odor.
  • Wash your feet daily. Using soap and water and making sure you get in-between your toes is important to maintain good foot health.

These are just a few tips to be mindful of when taking advantage of the good weather. For other more serious issues, it’s best to contact a doctor who can help.
